The David Austin rose, Wild Eve, is really coming along well this year. It's a shade tolerant rose - there aren't that many of them - and it is happily sharing space with the Lonicera Scentsation. Next to Wild Eve is the lovely New Dawn, a long-time awarding-winning favourite which is another that is tolerate of shade. However, New Dawn seems to have struggled in my shady border. It's getting there though, slowly but surely.

As you can see, Wild Eve (unlike the David Austin rose, William Morris) shows no sign of balling. It's blooms are perfectly tolerant of the rain.

I have always grown New Dawn and it's not an award winner for nothing. Once this gets going, gets bigger and manages to reach a bit more sunshine higher up on this north facing fence, it will come into its own. As you can see, it is making plenty bud. It's a lot bigger than it was last year, that's for sure.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I am so glad to see that the jasmine, Jasmine Officinale, is at last showing signs of flower. It's not in the ideal spot and has struggled a bit but now it has really taken off. Buds are forming and hopefully they will mature into fragrant white flowers.
