DELBARD ESTIVALE APPLES

While Delbard Estivale apples have been on the market since 1956 where they were known as Delcorf, this is the first year that I have heard of them.  I found them in Marks and Spencers food hall and decided to try them.  They have a Cox's Pippin taste to them, I think, but are very light fleshed and extremely crisp and have a sharp sweetness.  I actually prefer them.

According to http://www.theenglishappleman.com/varieties.asp, they are a cross between Golden Delicious & Stark Jonagrimes - oh, really? - and were given the trade name Delbarestival in 1998.

They are an early apple.  I wouldn't mind growing an apple tree if I could grow fruit as lovely as these.  It would seem that these apples have been given marked under various names such as Delbarestivale, Monidel, Dalili, Ambassy or Delcorf Estivale.  If you want to grow apples in your garden, you might like to try these.  It would seem that a drawback is that Delbard Estivale bruises easily.  So, don't kick them or bounce them around then!  :D
