GARDEN ROOM AND NEW SHED - A NEW LOOK FOR THE GARDEN

I've wanted a garden room in my West Yorkshire garden for so long, I cannot tell you how long.  Once it was a dream, then an idea, then today it became a reality.  It's only a small room, the size of the existing patio, but it fits nicely at the top of my garden and will give me a place to appreciate my garden, a place to read, paint, work on my laptop, snooze, relax and enjoy the outdoors even on the windiest of days. Alfie, my cat, has already investigated and seems to approve.

Garden Room and Mini Shed

Above, the finished 9 x 7ft (274cm x 213cm) garden room and mini shed.  They look good within the boundaries of my new 'anti-storm' (I hope) fencing.

It goes without saying that there have been a lot of changes, and there will be more to come, as all the container-grown plants from patio have had to be repositioned elsewhere.  The inside of the Room needs decorating.  My cream marble table has been placed inside.  It was never intended to be kept outside and each year I have had to protect the marble with a cleaner and sealer.

Below, the guys arriving with a cedar clad wall.  The cedar has been chosen carefully and is (hopefully) of a high quality timber (few, if any, knots in the wood).

Below, the base which has flooring to housing specifications, is down.  Two walls are up with two to go.  Note the EcoTherm insullation between the outer and inner layers. The inner wall is made of plywood (my choice) but it could have been done with a (more costly) plaster finish.

Below, the third wall is erected, with its double-glazed Upvc window unit, finished in grey, with anti-UV ray glass.

Below, it's starting to look like the finished product now.  Stainless steel nails have been used in the cedar which has been stained a soft brown.

Below, the roof going on now which has a hard finish of fibreglass.  It has an overhanging canopy.

Below, the double 4ft (121cm) doors and windows are now glazed, the old shed taken away, and the strong little shed put in its place.  I felt that a larger shed would be too much and now there is more space for plants.  I'm planning to screen the shed somewhat with shrubs so that the focus is on plants and the garden room.
